From a development perspective, this is one of the most exciting months of the first year! Babies at this age are generally happy, except when experiencing their first bouts of frustration as they constantly explore and learn, not quite able to do everything they want to. Their ability to express emotions through body language continues to improve.

This is also the time when babies might start to show a greater difference in development.  Often, a baby will develop faster in specific areas that interest him or her. Some will focus on gross motor skills and will test different ways to roll over, while others focus on fine motor activities as they explore and manipulate smaller objects. After a few weeks, these paths will converge and the level of development across different areas generally evens out.

During this month, driven by increasing curiosity, babies may make efforts to mobilize, but are not quite ready to crawl. They might be able to maintain a sitting position with your support, and some can even do it by themselves for a few seconds. This new position begins to expand their vision of the world around them, and opens their minds as they see things from a new perspective.

Fine motor movements will continue to become more precise, coordinated, deliberate, and planned.

The idea of object permanence emerges, as babies begin to understand that things and people exist when they are out of sight.
